Adventures of omanakuttan Malayalam Movie Review

The hot topic of discussion in social and online media for the last few days is about the fate of the movie Adventures of Omanakuttan and the news that the movie is getting scrapped from theatres due to holdover or whatever reasons within the very first week of its release. Well going by how things stand now, we don't think it will happen for another week or so as crowds have started coming in with the movie getting more shows atleast in some places.

The unfortunate thing to say here is that Adventures of Omanakuttan is not a movie that should be sidelined or rejected at the outset since the movie in our view is good for a watch with a freshness in treatment in how the story has been narratted.Poor marketing may have played its part in reaching out to the audience before the release but whatever the reason is that prompted theatres in taking off the movie from the big screen,

AOO directed by Rohith VS is an experimental film that has its share of positives and negatives and can be watched as a fun movie. The movie talks about Omanakuttan who is basically shy, reserved and confined to himself. To overcome this nature in him, he tries something on the advise of his boss. Whether he can succeed in that adventure and will someone come in handy to his rescue as a helper are all told in a lengthy fashion and this form part of rest of the story.

The treatment given to narrate this story is an experimental one. For conventional audience looking for spontaneous fun and enjoyment, the narrative might feel a bit exhaustive considering the almost three hours of running time plus the slow approach adopted to tell the story. If you have little bit of patience in you to cope with these two things, you would definitely find the adventures being seen on screen to your liking.

Its not what being told that will find fault among the audience but rather how it is told. As I mentioned a sort of experimental approach to narrate the story is chosen by Rohith here that some may like it and some may not. But the overall result isn't that bad as projected in some section of the media. Everyone has their own opinions and preferences and our team respect that.

But completely rejecting this movie, well I can't understand the thought behind it.To put it across straight, Adventures of Omanakuttan isn't the best of the films that we have seen and quite naturally isn't completely flawless but it provides fun while watching. Of course some fine tuning in the screenplay and some trimming on the running time would have made the entire movie more crisp and sharp. Its the sub plots used to bring in that mystery element to the protagonist that should have been trimmed to give a better shape to the movie. Had it been done, the outcome would have been totally different. There are some holes in the screenplay, had it been fixed before it would have paved the way for a tighter script there by aiding the movie in a good way.Rohith trying a different approach to tell the plot deserves appreciation. He has given Omanakuttan, the protagonist and the character a lengthy time with too much detailing going into it. In fact the entire first half is used to run throught his character and the director is successful in retaining that mystery element surrounding the character of Omanakuttan and it continue till the end. The second half gets more speedy and get the opposite treatment compared to the first half.

The latter half is more exciting, funny and interesting which was ideal and suited the story but have no complaints for the experimental approach chosen to introduce the content to the audience.Asif Ali as Omanakuttan gave his best shot. Be it the shy guy or the other characters he becomes associated with in between, the actor justified the faith that was placed on him by delivering a neat and clean act in front of the camera. Bhavana supported him with a composed and controlled acting effort to compliment her male partner in the movie.Siddhique and Kalabhavan Shajohn were notable among the supporting actors and were able to make their presence felt even though the roles weren't that big. Saiju Kurup, Aju Varghese, Srinda and a few more actors are also part of the cast. Cinematography and cuts were not bad while background score and music were on the okay side. The movie would have been a better product if some pruning had been done and had more pace in it. But that doesn't make the movie a bad one to be rejected totally.
Verdict
It definitely has the stuff in it that deserves to be watched.  it was a decent experience and that If someone comes with an approach different from the conventional ways, we shouldn't turn a blind eye towards it.
