Force 2 had a perfect setting to make it an all out engaging and a complete thriller. The action scenes were brilliantly executed, all the car chases and gun battles had the right dose of intensity and above all, the movie demanded a rough, tough and stylish antagonist and protagonist to make the cat and mouse game highly engaging which it had. The one thing missing from the kitty was a solid script to run in tandem with the above listed positive things. Ultimately the writing is the second best villain after the antagonist in the film making the sequel to Force an average film.
Moving on to a brief outline about the plot, its a case of an investigation following a series of murders. The interesting part is that all the victims are RAW agents who were spies recruited by RAW. These murders put our Intelligence agency in a spot of bother and to find the perpetrators of the crime initiate an investigation to be jointly conducted by RAW as well as the police force. Enter daredevil ACP Yashvardhan and an incompetent RAW agent KK (Sonakshi Sinha). How they unfold the mystery surrounding the crime is what rest of the story in Force 2 deal with.
Abhinay Deo who has earlier directed movies DelhiBelly and Game has on the making side given the perfect treatment required for a thriller. There is lot of style in each and every frame. The mood and tone was well balanced as per the demands of the genre but sadly the screenplay failed to give a face-lift to boost the excitement.
There lies the problem as Force 2 though is thrilling, the writing demanded much more solidity to take the movie to the next level. The fire and spark was clearly missing in spite of many contributing factors working in favour of the movie. Well directed and stylishly executed but the laziness in script was clearly visible right throughout.Certain things shown in the movie was way too silly for a movie that had a plot with RAW and intelligence in the background. One might wonder how come inefficient and incompetent people getsappointed as agents of our Intelligence agency. The character of KK played by Sonakshi Sinha is on whom we will be pointing at.The prequel which was a high voltage action drama directed by Nishikanth Kamath (a remake of Tamil film Kakkha Kakkha) that happened in 2011 had John Abraham and Vidyut Jamwal playing perfect foil complimenting each other as a hero and villain. Here John reprise the dutiful cop role of Yashvardhan but times have changed and the intensity in him is different this time. Though expression wise, the actor in him always comes up with wooden face, this character demanded such thing making the rough and tough role look apt on the big screen.Though we will miss Vidyut Jamwal, cannot ignore Tahir Raj Bhasin's efforts in front of the camera as the villain. He was totally in control of the character of Shiv Sharma making it menacing in hisown way. Seems the character of KK enacted by Sonakshi was poorly written and questioning our senses and hence the actress could not make any substantial contribution. Raj Babbar, Boman Irani, Adil Hussain and Genelia Deshmukh are also part of the cast in lesser prominent roles.
Cinematography was very much impressive and the same goes for the cuts too which were quite sharp that didn't affect the flow of the film. Not much significance for songs in the movie that has just one song to its credit. Thriller films demand a certain type of background score to give that engaging and adrenalin pumping feel and Force 2 had the tunes for that. Action and chases were well executed and special mention to that climax fight scenes that were pictured quite differently from what we normally see.
Verdict:
Force 2 could have been much better had the writing been much more powerful, unpredictable, intelligent and careful. With lot of contributions coming from different angle, the only thing that goes in the opposite way is the screenplay that pushed the movie into an average zone.
